At vlog – Cascades’ upcoming Science Pub, researcher Chris Hagen will discuss how work underway in the university’s Energy Systems Lab may shape the future of how people and goods are transported in the future.
The Science Pub, “Planes, Trains and Automobiles: Future Transportation,” will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 19 in Father Luke’s Room at McMenamins Old St. Francis in Bend.
In his presentation, Hagen will discuss innovations in energy storage and engine technology that are changing how vehicles are powered for individuals and industry. He will also explore regulatory and economic factors that play a role in forecasting future transportation technologies.
Hagen is an associate professor in the energy systems engineering program at vlog-Cascades and the director of the Energy Systems Lab. His research looks at energy conversion, novel transportation fuels, and the development of sensors for harsh environments. Hagen developed a vehicle-based natural gas refueling system that led to the creation of a Bend-based company, OnBoard Dynamics. He launched a second company, Rogue Approach, which is advancing technology developed in the Energy Systems Lab that enables drones to fly farther and for longer periods of time.
Hagen was recognized in 2017 by the Society of Automotive Engineers as one of the nation’s top young engineering educators.
Science Pubs take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Networking, and food and beverage service begin at 5:30 p.m., and the presentation starts at 6:30 p.m. Science Pubs are free to community members, but reservations are required. Space is limited to 100 guests.
Registration must occur by 5 p.m. the day prior to each Science Pub at osucascades.edu/sciencepubs.
